         GALLERY- KAURI SCULPTURE
  
  Hi welcome, My passion for nature and all it has to offer has inspired me into a life of sculpture/music and organic gardening over the last 20 years. Native birds of New Zealand sea life and musical instruments are my themes.                                                         I spend hours looking at the inside of the piece of wood before sculpting begins.                                                             The kauri I love to work with is the root systems and head wood. These one time majestic trees that once graced our native forests in the late 1800s.These huge Kauri trees fell to the axes of the earlier settlers that arrived in New Zealand around 1850.  Most of these Kauri trees were felled and shipped to both England and the United States.                Only the large trunks of these great trees were taken leaving behind the root systems and heads of the trees.                                     The colour of the wood grain in this root and head wood left behind is absolutely stunning as shown in my kauri sculpture art.
